Wheatley v. New York State United Teachers
CASE SUMMARY
The Fairness Center filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Robin Wheatley, an employee of the New Hartford Central School District who resigned from New York State United Teachers (“NYSUT”) in March 2021. Although Ms. Wheatley resigned her union membership, the union and her employer continued to take union dues from her paychecks. Ms. Wheatley brings this lawsuit to enforce her constitutional rights not to be associated with or to financially support a union against her will.
